How to root the Xiaomi Mi 3

Xiaomi Mi 3 is a powerful, yet an affordable high-end Android smartphone in the Indian market today. Many users would prefer using the handset as it is, but there are quite a few who need the Android operating system to be rooted in order to either use third-party root-enabled applications or to change and install new custom ROMs.
In order to root the Xiaomi Mi 3, you need to simply download a file, upload it to the smartphone’s internal storage, apply the patch and reboot. Here is how you go about it.
Find out the build number of your Xiaomi Mi 3 handset and download the respective file from the links below. (Note: It is advisable to stay away from rooting your handset if you are not confident of doing it yourself or if you simply don’t think it is necessary. However, Xiaomi has confirmed that rooting does not void warranty)
For rooting:
  • Download the rooting file from the links given below. Save it in the root directory of your Internal Storage.
  • Go to Tools. Open the Updater. Tap menu and select "Select update package".
  • Select the file you've downloaded for rooting. And tap "Update"
  • Wait for a few minutes and your phone will reboot.
  • After booting, open Security (app). Select "Permission". Turn on "Root permission".
  • Your Xiaomi Mi 3 is rooted successfully.
For unrooting
  • Download the unrooting file from the links given below. Open Security (app). Select "Permission". Turn off "Root permission".
  • Download the file above for unrooting. Save it in the root directory of your Internal Storage.
  • Go to Tools. Open the Updater. Tap menu and select "Select update package".
  • Select the file you've downloaded for unrooting. And tap "Update"
  • Wait for a few minutes and your phone will reboot.
  • Your Xiaomi Mi 3 is unrooted.
